Job Specification: Strategic Energy Planner

 

Codema is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a new senior position as part of our re-structuring and new strategy. We are passionate about leading Dublin's transition to low-carbon neutrality and we are looking for someone who shares the same passion and values as we do.  This is a unique opportunity to be at the leading edge of the development of a new sector in Ireland and the new Strategic Energy Planner will lead a niche team in areas including macro-energy system analysis, energy planning, district heating, energy research and innovation and will help deliver innovative low-carbon energy projects in Dublin.

What you will do:

  • Lead a niche team in the area of energy planning, district heating, energy research and innovation with real-life applications. Key activities of the team include:
    • Investigate and identify potential solutions to data gaps in developing evidence-based analyses
    • Technical and socio-economic analyses of low-carbon energy opportunities to support the creation of local authorities’ (municipalities’) County and City Development Plans
    • Techno-economic and financial feasibility of planned DH schemes, running analyses to support ongoing DH project development
    • Macro-energy system modelling and analyses to support a low-carbon transition
  • Collaborate with Codema’s other teams to ensure the most is made of your team’s outputs, and ensure all outputs are of high standard and quality
  • Build up and expand in-house sectoral expertise & knowledge of policy, regulation, innovation and best practice across all key energy sectors (energy efficiency, heat, electricity, transport, planning, etc.) affecting emissions in Dublin, and needs of the Dublin Local Authorities
  • Understand and gain in-depth knowledge of all new EU policy
  • Seek out relevant EU/national project opportunities and funding streams, and develop project proposals and applications for project funding, particularly in areas where we need to up-skill and which align with our vision
  • Publish and present our research in international journals and conferences 
  • Engage, collaborate and develop strong relationships with local and EU research institutes
  • Develop strong policy positions based on evidence and analysis built up in research and development projects
  • Present results of projects at EU, National and local conferences and events

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in similar energy planning/energy systems lead role
  • A recognised energy planning/systems degree or master’s qualification
  • Experience leading a diverse team with different skills technical team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Stakeholder engagement & relationship management
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrable experience developing and applying in real world applications spatially-led Energy Masterplans and techno-economic analysis to support project development
  • Experience with EnergyPlan, EnergyPro, QGIS, Python and/or other software tools for macro-energy system analyses
  • Preparing project applications and proposal writing

Additional skills that would be a distinct advantage:

  • Experience working with public sector, such as local authorities
  • Knowledge of the Irish energy policy, planning system & county development plans
  • Project management/co-ordination experience
  • Programming software knowledge
  • Intellectual Property data management

Location:                         

In line with current restrictions, the position may initially be full-time remote working, with the option of a mixture of remote working and in-office work when restrictions start to ease. The Codema office is located at The Loft, 2 - 4 Crown Alley, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 and is only accessible via a staircase.

Duration:                         2-year Fixed Term Contract (Full-time)
