This role focuses on ensuring that all products / procedures are safe, legal and compliant at all times. It involves close interaction with all relevant departments on quality issues as well as managing the supplier and customer base. It requires a high level of knowledge of food technology and a clear understanding of to ensure that all products meet highest quality and food safety standards.
Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain and update the company’s QMS, in line with legal, BRC & customer standards/requirements.
• Implement necessary internal quality assurance systems and infrastructure to support company growth
• Continually Review Manage HACCP Plan through changes, legislation, process controls and raw materials
• Prepare and Successfully conduct all Customer and Official Agency Audits
• Ensure any non-conformances are dealt with expediently
• Manage product traceability
• Manage laboratory testing programs
• Ensure due diligence testing of products
• Develop employees through training, monitoring, and mentoring
• Promote and maintain a safe work environment
• Work closely with sales and plant operations teams in the areas of quality program management, inspection coordination
• Advise MD and Management staff of any quality control and food safety issues in addition to presenting solutions.
• Completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual audits and associated reporting as required
Legal Requirements
• Remain up to date with legal changes and manage the flow of that information into the business, ensuring the company complies within the relevant timescales and deliverables (including Health and Safety Department, HSE, and food / nutritional legislation
• Manage product recall and check procedure and ensure that it is maintained and updated as necessary
• Ensure that all printed material, which is designed for customers, is factually correct and meets legal guidelines
• Liaison with external health and safety contractors/advisors as necessary
Support
• Support customer service/Sales teams with food safety related customer queries
• Support customer on queries regarding shelf life, quality, nutritional information and allergens
• Support the production staff and management on issues of food safety and best practice when required
• Support marketing with queries
• Manage the microbiological testing programme of finished products
• To work on selected project work as required
Required Qualifications & Competencies
• Degree in Food Science / Safety or equivalent relevant qualification
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems,
• Experience with regulatory inspections / audits
• Strong Interpersonal and professional skills to interact and grow professionally at all levels including senior management, colleagues and clients
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Well-developed and proven analytical skills
• Self-motivated, with the ability to manage own workload and work on own initiative
