Attending Workplace Relations Commission or Labour Court proceedings can be adversarial and lead to a breakdown in relationships. It can also be extremely lengthy and costly and may, ultimately, fail to resolve the issue.

Mediation is recognised as offering a viable alternative to the dispute resolution option, whereby a trained mediator works with the disputing individuals with the aim of facilitating an agreement that satisfies both sides equally.
